GOVERNMENT FORECAST.
Mr D. C. Bates issued the following weather nummary and forecast at 5 p.m. yesterday:— , The barometer has fallen everywhere, ana the winds have changed to northerlios. Increasing hazo and cloudiness is reported generally, and -with showery weather about Cook Strait. Present indications are for modorat* to strong northerly winds, veering to westerlies and increasing southward of Kew Plymouth and Caetlopoint. Unsettled and cloudy weather, while lain is probable, generally and a further decrease in barometric pressure.
