SHIPPING NOTES.

The New Zealand Shipping Co.'s chartered steamer W'aiwera, from S>t. John, Canada, arrived at Sydney last Monday, and is due a*. Auckland about Tuesday or Wednesday next. The Waiwexa is expected to arrive at Lyttelton about the 14th inst. The A. and A.. Line steamer Roseric, which left New York on December SOth, arrived at Melbourne on Wednesday, after a passage of 6i days. After calling at Sydney, tho Ecseric comes on to .\ew Zealand ports to complete discharging, and is due at Lyttelton about March 31st.

Tho Federal-Houlder-Shiro Line steamer Morayshire, which sailed from Lyttelton on January 31st for West of England porta, left Bahia Blanca last Monday.

The FederaL-Houlder-Shire Line steamer Kent will sail from Liverpool next Saturday, 9th inst., for New Zealand ports, and will bo followed on April 6th by the Nairnshire. The steamer Joan Craig arrived yesterday morning from Sydney and Newcastle via' Aucklanfl . and Tauranga, to land 47 long hardwood piles for the Lyttelton Harbour Board. The vessel left after midnight tor Greymouth and Nydia Bay to load for Sydney. The Joan Craig is a strongly built arid serviceable looking cargo steamer of 1148 tons gross, and 723 tons net register, her-dimensions being:—Length 229 ft, beam 33.5R, depth of hold 14.7 ft. She was originally known as the Bentinck, and was built in 1903 by Wood, Skinner and Co., Ltd., Newcastle-on-Tyne, for tho British New Guinea Development Company, Ltd., from whom she was purchased last ' year by Messrs J. J. Craig, Ltd.. .of Auckland. The Joan Craig is commanded by Captain D. Urquhart, formerly master of tho well-known barque Jcssio Craig.

The Kini left Greymouth *t 6.30 a.m. yesterday with a full load of timber for Lyttelton, and is due here at an early hour tomorrow morning.

The Rakanoa arrived at midday yesterday with a full cargo of coal from Westport. She will sail to-night for Timaru and Dunedin to comolete discharging.

Tho Pukaki will arrive here this morning from Greymouth via Wellington, with a part load of coal.

The Kairaki left early yesterday morning for Pelorus Sound for another load of sheop, and is due bck here to-morrow.

Tho Wootton, which has been undergoing extensive repairs to her boiler, is expected to sail to-day for Kaikoura, to load sheep for Kaiapoi.

The Petone left Gisbomo at 5.30 p.m. on Thursday, with a shipment of cattle for Lyttelton, and is due hero.to-night or to-morrow morning. She will leavo Lyttelton on Tuesday for Westport. The Breeze sailed yesterday for Dunedin, Oamaru, and Timaru, and is duo back on Monday, when she will sail for Picton and Wanganui. The Storm is to leavo Lyttelton next Wednesday for Wellington nd Wanganui. Mr Whiteford, chief officer of the Tutanekai, is relieving Mr Tomlinson, chief of the Hinemoa, who is on holiday leave. Mr H. J. Hatchwell, of Lyttclton, is mate of the barquentine Carla, which left Wellington yesterday in tow of the .Arapawa, for Wanganui; where she is to load timber for Sydney.

The local agonts for the North German Lloyd Company hare received cable advice that tho Grosser Kurfurst, 13,243 tons, from Bremen, Antwerp', and Southampton/ arrived at Freemantle, and haa the following passengers on board for New Zealand:—Messrs Raine, Walker, Yandyle.
