ENGLISH CRUISER UNDER SEALED ORDERS.
United Press Associatipn— Bj Electiio Telegraph—Copyright MALTA. February 25. The cruiser Lancaster is hastily leaving under sealed orders. It is believed that her destination is Beirut. REPORTED ENGAGEMENT AT BEIRUT. TORPEDO BOAT SUNK. ROME, February 25. It is officially state! that Admiral Faravelli surprised Turkish warships at Beirut, and domanded their surrender by 9 o'clock. Hβ communicated with the Governor and repeated bis demand. At f> o'clock he had not received a reply, so he opened fire on the corvette Avanillah, which' replied vigorously. Eventually a fire broke out, silencing the Avanillah. The warship Garibaldi then torpedoed and fired guns at a Turkish torpedo boat, sinking her. Admiral Faravelli categorically denies bombarding the town, and says that the squadron left immediately.
