SHIPPING NOTES.

The congestion of shipping in tho port was paxtially relieved yesterday by the departure of several steamers, but there was a considerable shortage of labour owing to the largo number of vessels at tho wharves. Neariy every vessel in the port was working shorthanded. The Kittawa and Ji.aituna, which worked for two hours on Wednesday, were idio all day yesterday. Several steamers "and sailers were able to secure only on© or two gangs of men, and wero able to discharge very little cargo. Railway trucks were also in short supply, but owing to the, scarcity of labour this did not affect the position to any extent. Tho Now Zealand Shipping Company's steamer Whakatane will arrive here on Sunday from Wellington to complete loading. Tho vessel will tako a largo quantity of wool and general cargo, and will sail finally on Wednesday next, January 3rd, fee London, via Monte Video. ~ The New Zealand Shipping Company's chartered steamer Tokomlru* arrived at Auckland yesterday f rom Montreal, via Melbourne and Sydney, and after calling at Wellington, is duo hero next Wednesday. Tho Xyser Line steamer Star of Australia arrived at Auckland on Wednesday night, from New York, via Melbourne and Sydney. After calling at Wellington, where she is duo on Monday, tho vessel will arrive at Lyttelton about Wednesday or .Thursday next." The Kamona, which has been laid up during tho holidays, will complete-discharging to-morrow evening, when she will leave for Wellington. Tho Corinna will arrive here on Tnesday morning direct from Dunedin, and will leave in the afternoon for Wellington, Nelson, New Plymouth and Onehunga. The Union Company's steamer Waihora will arrive here to-morrow from Newcastle, via Wellington, to discharge the balance of her cargo of coal. The Union Company's steamer Waitemata left' Newcastle at 1 a.m. on Sunday, with a full load of coal for Wellington. The vessel will return to Newcastle to load coal for Java, and thence sho will proceed to Calcutta to load general cargo for New■ Zealand, via Singapore and Samarang, in cf the Aparima. The latter vessel, which ia due at Auckland next week from Calcutta, via Singapore, will, go to Australia, to load wheat for the United Kingdom or Europe. The Union Company'a steamer Karma left Samarang last week with a cargo of kapok for New Zealand ports. The vessel will call at Bunbury on the passage, to replenish her coal bunkers. Tho Westport Coal Company's collier Canopus, which' is undergoing hor annual overhaul and special survey, will be floated out of dock to-morrow at 1 p.m., and will leavo next week for Westport. Tho Canterbury Steam Shipping Company's steamer Pctono is duo at Sydney tomorrow from Wanganai, via Westport, with a load of timber. Tho Breeze sailed lata lust night for Waipapa and Jlotonau to load wool, and is duo back hero on Monday.
