CHURCH SERVICES.

, Christmas services commenced at Am»erley on Christmas Eve, when carols jroro sung during tho service. On Christmas Day there was Holy Communion at 8 a.m., followed by matins and -Holy Communion at 10.30. A sacred Kolo, "The iSfcar of Bethlehem" (Adams), was sung by Miss Hhodes. Tho anthem was "God so Loved tho World"' (Gounod). The vicar (Rev. W. F. 'Riiowles) preached on Isaiah's words, "A littlo child shall load them." Carols we're Rung in the evening, and tho "jintbdtn was "His Nunic is Wonderful" (Simper). A sacred solo, "Nazareth" (Gounod), was contributed by Mrs ~Knowles. Tho church had been beautifully decorated. On Sunday morning a handsomely wrought altar, with reredos, was dedicated for uso in Divine, service. Jfc is erected by Mrs A. E. Tutton in memory of her late husband. Miss .' Tutton has presented to tho church a hymn-board of her own carving. At St. Peter's Church, Akaroa, tho Christmas services began on Sunday - last. At the festal evensong tho anthem was "Emmanuel: God With Us," and "The Story of Bethle_bam," and carols. Tho decorations wero ■ very tasteful. On Sunday afternoon the vicar held a Christmas service in r St. Andrew's Church, Lβ Bon's Bay. There was a largo congregation, and a .full, hearty service was rendered. The church was prettily decorated. Services were also held in the afternoon by -tho lay readers at Wainui and French Farm. On Christmas Day, at St. ■■ -Peter's, a celebration was held at 8 a.m.-, and also after the morning servico at 11. ■ . A Christmas choral service was held on Sunday evening in tho Springston Methodist Church, when tax theme, etc., were rendered by a combined choir of members of the Ellesmexe.
