REGULATING WOOL SALES.

It -would appear as if the growth of the local wool sales in Australia were at one time going to raiso a difficulty in regard to regulating tho quantity offered weekly. More than. bales of wool aro now sold in Brisbane and Sydney every season, besides the great quantity sold in Melbourne, Geelong, and Adelaide. An arttingement has now been made to suspend the Sydney sales for a week, in each month to allow the buyers to attend the Brisbane sales. This method of dealing with the huge mass of wool which reaches these two markets is 'undoubtedly working to the advantage; of producers, for in the absence of some euch systematic way of handling the supply of the two States, which together produce the bulk of the Australian clip, the buying power would ,be t split up, and in both centres competition would bo lessened. Another advantage which results from stopping the sales in Sydney, save "The Mail," whilst the Brisbane houses are selling is that unduly heavy offerings such ac would impose a tremendous strain upon the trade are thereby avoided. It is found that there is usually about 50,000 bales Available for salo in Brisbane every four weeks, and in Sydney about 50,000- bales per week have recently been.available, co that if the sales were carried on there without any regard to the quantities of wool which were being forced on the market in Queensland the trade would be called upon to deal with over 120,000 bales in come weeks, allowing for what is put forward in Melbourne, Geelong, and Adelaide. There may be a little restlessness on tho part of some growers who find they cannot have their consignments catalogued just on the particular day they want to sell on, and there is no doubt a good deal of wool now arriving in Sydney that it will be impossible to offer at auction beforo February;"but for all that the wisdom of guarding as far as possible - against overloading tho market is beginning to bo generally recognised, and dated. -
