AUCKLAND COMPETITIONS.
(FBEBS ASSOCIATION TELEGRA2I.) AUCKLAND, December 10. The Auckland competitions were brought to a successful conclusion last night. A number of special prizes were giren, including tho following:— Essay on Biahop Selwyn, Mr Carter (Wellington) J r Mrs Andrew (Mount BosMll) 2. Original story (amateurs), Alias L. Eaatgat© (Auckland) 1, Sire J. D. Cray (Wellington) 2; third, fourth and fifth place in solo pianiat xeciial, Mr Baxter Buckley (Invtocargill}, Mies Barry Snodgtaaß (Te Puke), Mise A. Bidley (Dunedin); premier lady vocalist, Miss L. C. Ardner (New Lynn); premier male vocalist, Mr A, Bipler (Dunedin); pre--micr lady elocutionist, Mies Z. Bartley (Aucklana); p:«mier gentleman elocutionist, itr H. Borrodale (Auckland). Some interesting remarks on the competitions were -made by . Profeseor Ivea, who judged tha musical sections. In some respects, he fiaid, the oompctllione had impresied him yery favouraoly, in others ho had been a, little disappointed. The beat ivork "was dono in violin and piasoforto section?. If Hies Boswortii were sent to etody in the great musical reniiea of tho Old "VV'orld eho would be a credit to .New Zealand.
