THE POINT AT ISSUE IN CHRISTCHURCH NORTH.

TO THE EDITOR OF "THE TRESS." Sir,-—-tiaving already expressed their minds on the prohibition question, the electors of Christchurch North can contemplate Thursday's ballot from a purely political point of view- The question for them now is, Do Tβ wish as our representative a man who while

calling himself an Independent Liberal (or, is it a Liberal independent Isitt?) is in -reality such a stout defender of the Government as to secure for his encomiums of vis party the grateful appreciations of Sir Joseph Ward. The so-called Independent Liberal or Independent Oppositionist is, in my opjiiou, to a.l intents a party adherent who endeavours to enlist the votes of such electors of the opposite party as are in sympathy with his views on matters other than political. 'Xsow, this is not as it should ue, and much as I admire ilr Isiit's vigorous pensonal.ty, and much as I subscribe to h:s prohibition views, I could not subjugate my political opinions to the extent of supporting him at the bb o*, How far my opinion is shared by the Chrlstchurch North electors I know not, but the political reforms «> urgently required in New Zealand can only bo hastened by the return of members pledged to assist in putting an end to that, intolerable autocracy which has far too iong held sway in the Dominion, | and the election of Mr Hall -will go far to ensure the inauguration of these reforms —l r ours. etc., ! A LIFE ABSTAINER.
