AMBULANCE DAY.

t Tho annual Ambulance Day collection is to be taken up in Christchurch this year on December 2nd. In 1907 and 1908 subsidies were granted by the Government on Christehurch collections, and this, together with the collections, ; enabled two ambulances to be procured I and a central depot of stretchers and I dressings to bo established. A large I number of public first aid depots for use :in case of street accidents have also I been (stationed about the city and in populous localities, and the work of I establishing these depots must bo con- > tinuod and extended to localities which 1 aro yearly becoming more populated. Since the payment of a subsidy was dis_ continued, the whole of the money collected in and about Christchurch has been absorbed in making good tho losses on classes (it is impossible to charge a class fee high enough to cover ; all expenses), in replenishing stores, and !in keeping ambulances, stretchers, and ! appliances in good repair. The com--1 mittee hr-s also to meot many cases i where attendance to invalids is necessary because of the patient being m poor circumstances. The committee is also very anxious to extend the work of tho Association in country districts, where a knowledge of first aid and home nursing is even more necessary than in the towns.
