In tho Assembly, Mr Holman justified the release of Dixon, who was imprisoned for his connection with the Lithgow riots, on the ground that ho might have been prejudiced in the preparation for the subsequent trial at Bathurst. The decision not to proceed with tho second trial at Bathurst after the jury had disagreed was made by the SolicitorGeneral on the recommendation of the Senior Crown Prosecutor.
