IN THE LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL.
(ABRIDGED PRES9 ASSOCIATION REPORT.) WELLINGTON. Aug 1. In tho Legislative Council this evening tho Hon. J. 11. Sinclair moved the. Address-in-Reply. Ho dealt at great length with Imperial matters, and said tho establishment of some ceiV'al body to deal with Imperial affairs in which the Dominion was concerned was imperatively necessary. Ho commended the views of Sir Joseph Ward, but said tho day of their consummation was not yet. Tho members of tho Imperial Council need not be premiers of colonies, but they should be appointed because of their knowledge and sound judgment in colonial affairs. The Hon. -S. Thorno George seconded the motion and remarked that any debato on tho Governor's speech was a pure waste of time. He missed one thing from the speech, and that was an enunciation of a bold policy. Hβ would like to have seen a bold policy brought down for completing our Alain Trunk Railway system. Ho thought it would bo wise to raise a loan to complete these lines at the earliest possible moment. An hon. member: Twenty millions? Mr George: Even if it cost that, it would not matter; tho lines would all pay. Tho debate was adjourned.
