CANTERBURY COLLEGE.
BOARD OF GOVERNORS.
The Board of Governors of Canterbury College met yesterday, when there were present—Mr J. C. Adams (in the chair), Dean Harper, Dr. Talbot, aiid Messrs T. AY. Adams, C. H. Opio, G. Rennie, S. Hurst-Seagcr, "VV. H. Montgomery, T. Hughes, \V. lzard, J. L. Scott, T. W. Howe, Geo. T. Weston ,and H. D. Acland. Tho first 'business taken was the election of chairman for tho coming year.
Dean Harper nominated Mr J. C Adams.
The nomination was seconded by Mr Montgomery, and Mr Adams was reelected without opposition.
Last year's committees wove re-ap-pointed for another year. Tho Professorial Board wrote., suggesting it was, desirable that some such opportunities :is were now offered to men students, should be offered to exceptionally p-omisitig women students to continue their studies in England, or elsewhere, on tho completion of their University course here. Tho Pro J'e.vsc rial Board taigKOstcd that .1 committee of tho Board of Governors should be appointed to consult with a committre from the Professorial Board. The Chairman takl that personally he was decidedly in favour of the proposal. At present most of the scholarships went to the male students, and if tho College finances allowed it some scholarship should bo oilered which would enable the most brilliant ot the women students to profit by a stay in the older countries of the world. The Chairman and Dr. Talbot were appointed a committee to confer with tlio Professorial BoardA committee was appointed to draw up a scheme for the completion ot tho buildincs around tho College q»adview of further bund.iigs being erected. The CoU-eiio Committee recommended the Board that leave of absenc3 bo granted to Professor G.'-b----batt from October 13th, to enable him to visit England during the long vacation, and that m the case of exempted students, the examination fees be not raid to the profe££ors and lecturers by whom they are examined. The report was adopted. Tho Museum and Library Committee recommended that a special committee be set up for the purpose or considering the* question whether or not it was desirable that the Public Library should be transferred to the City Council, and, if so, on what terms the transference shoulu bo made, and to consider what steps should be taken to enlarge the College library, and arrance for a College library lmiidinp; and its site. The committee reported having appointed Miss.M. Blackett to tho position of junior assistant at the Public Library, in nlaco of Miss H. Dailison, resigned.
