HOCKEY.
LADIES' HOCKEY ASSOCIATION.
The management committee of the Canterbury Ladies Hockey Association mot last night. A letter was received from tho Banks Peninsula Sub-association, stating that the Association had decided to send a team to compete at the tournament at Wellington. The Southland Association wrote, stating that their representative team would play tho Canterbury team in Christchurch on Wednesday, August 30th,* on their way to the Wellington tournament. The Southland team would reach Christchurch on August 28th, bo as to allow ono day free in Christchurch before tho match was played. It waa proposed to send a team of fourteen girls,'with a lady manager and a chaperon. The secretary of the New Zealand Ladies' Hockey Association wrote, advising that a special meeting would be held on August 10th, to coneider the admission to the Association of the newly formed associations of Manawatu, Poverty Bay and Marlborough. Mr A. Burns wa3. appointed to represent the Canterbury Association at_ the meeting, and he was instructed to bring forward a proposal that in future the tournament system should be abandoned in favour of the challengo shield system. , '
Playing at Kirwee on Saturday the Kimberley Ladies defeated the local club by two goals, shot by N. and T. Clements, to nil. Mr R. Burgess was referee.
