WEEK BY WEEK.

THE'-. SUMMER IN LONDON.

(FHOII OtTTt OWN CORRKSrONDENT.) LONDON, Juno 9. Thor© was quite a gathering of Now Zealanders at the gorgeous celebration on Saturday at Eton College of the Fourth of June, tho anniversary of the birth, of George 111., to whom, it is said, the College owes moro thato to any other man.

We need not worry about the speeches, the sports, tho boats on the river, the quaint, old-time garb in which many of the boys dress for the occasion. Princo Arthur of Counaught was there, aud Prince and Princess Alexander of Teck, the Duke of Newcastle and Viscount Peel, and the oversea party included Sir Joseph! and Lady Ward, Miss Ward, Mr Gladstone Ward, Mrs and Miss Seddon, Lady Stout, Sir Charles and Lady Bowen, Mr C. P. Skerrett, K.C., the Primate and Mrs Nevill, and Mr Stout.

Early in the afternoon the Prims Minister's party fled to Nuneham, where they spent the week-end as the fueste of Mr Harcourt. Dr. and Mrs indlay, meanwhile, were the guests of the Earl of Orford at his beautiful seat at Eroingham, near Norwich. WhitMonday saw Sir Joseph and Lady Ward in another part of Oxfordshire, at the review of Territorials (Yeomanry) and sports at the Duke of Marlborough's place at Blenheim, where tho ex-King of Portugal was one of the. guests of honour. The house party here was a very distinguished one, and Lady Lilian Grenfell helped her brother to entertain. Mr and Mrs Hamersley were also amongst those who joined the house party for the sports on Monday.

Then hastily back to London. Tuesday saw the Prime Minister in Bristol, the guest of the Lord Mayor and the Chamber of Commerce, both anxious to show how keen the old western port is on the New Zealand connection. Lord Norihcliffe gave a luncheon at his old Elizabethan seat, Sutton Place, in Surrey, on Wednesday, when several of the guests of the Emnire Press Union •n-ere also present, and in the evening many foregathered again at the ball of the Austral Club in Piccadilly.

Yesterday Sir George and Lady Reid pave a large "at home," at which onr delegates put in an appearance, and to-day they are snatching the only chance of really meeting a gathering of New Zealanders at the Crystal Palace. Some have grone to the (?oun+e?s of Jersey's "at home" at- Osterley Park. Lady Ward's party at tho Eiehty Club ball will include Miss Seddon, Miss Rubi Seddon. Mr P. C. Skerrett, and Mr Robert Turnbull.
