In his appeal jit Boma, in the Congo, against his conviction for murder and robbery, Major Arnold declared that whatever he had done was justified by the circumstances' The country was in open revolt and the natives frequently attacked him.
Natives testified that a largo batch cf natives were suddenly sent to tho Noali prison, and when they lay down at night they were literally piled on one another. Terrible struggles ensued for tho best places, and by morning 33 were dead.
