ENGLISH PRESS COMMENT.
Referring to Lord Kitchener's appointment, the "Daily Chronicle" states that it is not enamoured of the idea of appointing a soldier to a great position of civil administrator, unless there are special circumstances in Egypt that thoroughly justify the Government's choice. Tho "Chronicle," however, eulogises Lord Kitchener's chivalrous attitude towards Major Maxchanti's mission tp Fashoda, and iiko at the peace negotiations at Vereeniging at the close of the Boer War. Such recollections should remove all misgivings. The paper adds that a man with a powerful personality is needed in Egypt at this juncture. Moreover, the Egyptians will find Lord Kitchener as just as he is fearless.
