PERSONAL ITEMS.
The Hon. R. McKenzie, Minister of Public Works, arrived at Greymouth last evening, aud a very cordial welcome.
Mr Evan Parry, the engineer appointed by the Government to take control of the hydroelectric schemes, and Mr L. Birks, arrived from Wellington by the Maori yesterday morning. Captain J. Bone, Marine Superintendent of the New Zealand Shipping Company, arrived from Wellington by the Maori yesterday.
At the launch of the New Zealand Shipping Company's new steamer Itemuera, at Dumbarton en May 31st Mr Denny, one of tho builders, prel sented Airs A. E. G. Rhodes'with a handsome jewelled iiendaut, as a souvenir of the occasion.

E. Upton, past president, in, the
unavoidable absence of the president (Mr J. Stringfelbw) presented, on behalf of the Association, Mr T. F. Gibson with a valuable gold watch, as a slight recognition of the good work he had dene in numerous ways fctr the benefit and tho advancement of the agricultural and pastoral interests of the district. At a meeting of the Ashburton County Racing Club, Mr T. E. chairman of the club, presented Mr Gibson with a morocco-lined dressing-case, as a token of the club's appreciation of his assistance during his residence in Ashburton.
