CHRISTCHURCH FIRE BOARD.

The Ohristcliurcli Fire Board met last evening when theire wero'pre_ent:— Messrs A. L. Parsons (chairman), E. Smith, H. Holland. J. F. Grierson, H. R. Rusbridge, F. Burgoyne, and W. B. McKenzie. ( The St. John Ambulanco Association wrote recommending that the Board's staff be taught First Aid, which would be of ercat assistance in the case of accidents

It was decided that the Superintendent interview tho Board's doctor with a view to seeing what arrangements oould be mado with him for instruction in First Aid, the feeling of the meeting being that it would bo impossible to get the staff together for instruction in ono class as was suggested by tho Association.

The Staff aud Plant Committee recommended that as tho City Council desired tho Chester street station to be placed in a better state of repair, the Council bo asked if it were prepared to do ontside work, such as new roofing, in which case the committee recommended tho Board to undertake the necessary interior work. Tbe oommittee further recommended that tho whole question of salaries be gone into and that a quantity of hose, valued at £128 10s be purchased. Tha report was adopted, it being decided to hold a special meeting to discuss the question of the staff's wages with a view to adopting a scale uniform with the wages paid in tho othor chief centre*-. On the motion of Mr Burgoyne, it was decided:—-'That the Superintendent bo asked to furnish a report showing the number of men who have passed through his hands during tho past two years and the reasons for the dismissals and resignations." Accounts for £1167 ll s 5d were passed fcr payment. The financial statement showed that tho balanco at the bank on June 30th was £'918 17s M.
