Xiiere is considerable speculation m to whether she will exceed Flair's price. . Later. Tatterealls have purchased the mare Soeptre for 7000 guineas. Sceptre and Flair are two of the most , famous brood mares «f modern times. The latter was sold two years ago by the exeoutore of the late Sir Daniel Cooper to-Mr ' P. C. Stem, for IS.OOOgs. At the time «he > had. a colt foal by GaUinule at foot and « was in foal to Mjistead. . Sceptre was pur- j chased by Mr B. S. Sievier for IO.OOOge ac i a yearling, and won for him stake money to , the amoant of £26,593, after which «he was sold to Bit Wk Bass for £ 25,000. For that 1 sportsman she won £12,633 before being re- ' t.red from the Tarf in 1903. Her first foal < was Maid of the Mist, who was not a great success, while her second. Mud of Corinth, was cold recently for 4000gs. Her third foal, by Isinglass, made 1650gs and her fourth, a filly by Carbine, realised iSOOgs.
