MAGISTRATE'S COURT.
(Before Mr H. W. Bishop, S.M.) DRUNKENNESS. A first offender who had been found drunk on the railway station platform, was lined 10s, in derautt 48 hours' imprisonment. '.„_., One first offender was hned os,.in defanlt 24 hours' imprisonment, for drunkenness, and was ordered to make, good damage to the extent of 5s to the cab that took him to the Police Station. Hugh Green, a second offender, was fined 10s, in default 48 hours' imprisonment, for drunkenness.. ALLEGED PERJURY. Charles 13oak.es, alleged to have committed perjury during the hearing of an affiliation case at Auckland, was remanded to appear in that town on June 21st. A COSTLY SHILLING. Colin Cameron, a young man described as having a bad record, was sentenced to seven days' imprisonment with hard labour for tho theft of one shilling from the person of Albert Medcalf. DRINK AND COMPLICATIONS. Patrick Dec was charged with helpless drunkenness, and with the theft of a cycle valued at £5, tho property of Horatio Wood. On tho application of tho police accused was lemanded for one week, for medical treatment. THEFT. Louis Leon Cohen, on remand, appeared on a charge of having stolen jewellery and stones to tho valuo of £15 7s Gd. Mr Cassidy, who appeared for the prisoner said that his client elected to be dealt with summarily, and would plead guilty. Cohen had gone to Mr PannelT's rooms to buy stock and whilo there had committed tho theft. ±->s record was a good one, and ho was a married man. There was no apparent reason for the theft. Chief Detective. Bishop said that the police authorities knew nothing against tho man. His Worship stated that in his opinion it would bo well to obtain the Probation Officer's report, as he could not admit to probation without tho formalities being complied with. Mr Cassidy explained that he did not ask for probation. He suggested that the caser might be met by a fine. Accused was convicted and fined £5, in default two months' imprisonmentA PROHIBITED PERSON. John Walter Baxter, a prohibited person, was fined 10s for having been found drnnk, and 10s for the breach of a prohibition order, with the alternative in each case of 48 hours' imprisonment.
