SOUVENIR BOOKLET.

The Coronation Souvenir, a booklet of some seventy pages, which will be on salo to-morrow morning, contains an astonishing fund of information relating to Imperial and Colonial affairs, with other articles bearing on subjects; of an economic and social nature. Tho publication is edited by Protcssor s J. Might, tho contributors being well known local authorities all ol whom have given their services willingly and gratuitously. Tho editor contributes two articles of Coronation interest, ono on "Tho (Mice of King," tho other on "Tho Coronation Oath." A further article, also by tho editor, on "British Colonial Policy," contains a well thought-out summary of tho history of ono of the greatest of tho Imperial activities. Other contributors deal succinctly with important subjects such as tho British foreign policy, tho Defence of the Emniro, tno iiiso of Democracy, tho British in Exploration, Soienco and Invention tho Iron Crown of Empire, and Literature. Mr T. E. Taylor pre- j sents a few thoughts dealing with the progress of the Humanitarian movement during tho Victorian era, while Mrs Howell discusses tho progress of tho Woman Movement. Two articles of particular interest to Now Zealandera and especially young Now Zoalanders como from the pens of the editor of the "Lyttelton Times," and tho editor of "The Press." The first sketches tho history of tho foundation and progress of tho Canterbury settlement, and the growth of tho now city of Christchurch; the second has a wider scope and deals briefly with tho history of. New Zealand under tho Crown, from the formation of tho Now Zealand Company and tho declaration of British sovereiguty in 1839, to the presentation of a Dreadnought from tho young country to tho old one. The introductory sonnet to tho booklet, "Tho Proper Spirit," is a virile noetic call by Professor Arnold Wall While Mr Johannes C. Andersen in his "Song of Empire," touches truly tho Imperial sentiment. Mr Alan E. Mulgan under tho heading, "Some thoughts for Coronation 'Day," has made a hanpy selection of appropriate references from the poets. In order to stimulate further interest in the sut> jeets dealt with, to each articlo aro appended tho names of books recommended for reading, and in this respect if for none other the publication possesses a distinctly educational value. Several illustrations arc given including exterior and interior views of Westminster Abbey, also views of the statues of John Robert Godley. William Rollcston and William. Sefton Mdorhouse. Tho price for tho souvenir has been fixed at one shilling, and tho total proceeds of sales after allowing for tho baro cost of printing will be given to the Memorial Fund for the erection of a homo for those suffering from advanced consumption. Copies will be on sale on Tuesday at "Tho .Tress" office, City Council office, and Wbitcombo and Tombs.
