THEATRICAL MANAGER ASSAULTED.
(PRESS ASSOCIATION- TELEGnAM.) AUCKLAND. June 17. - A disturbance near His Majesty's Theatre last night resulted in injuries to Mr Fred Duval, theatrical manager. The entertainment given by "The Wanderers" was disturbed by a man who went out during the interval. The doorkeeper refused to readmit him. He returned with 'several friends and demanded admission. Mr Duval, manager of the Company, endorsed the doorkeeper's refusal. The man struck Mr Duval a heavy blow on the side of the head and knocked him against the corner of the buildinu. A melee ensued, in which several blows were given and received. Mr Duval was rescued from the crowd bleeding freely from a hasty scalp wound. , Subsequently a man" named Alfred Watson, " was arrested and charged with assulting Sir Duval and using obscene language. As a sequel to the affair, at the Police Court this morning, Watson was charged with having assaulted Mr Fred Duval, and with using obscene language. Ho was fined £15, or 14 days, for the assault, and £2, or seven days, for tho bad language.
