WEEKLY SALE REPORT
What is admitted to bo the most successful clearing sale ever held in Christchurch was conducted by us on Thursday and Friday last, at Opawa, in tho estate of the late G. P. Ormerod. Tho sale was attended by upwards of 3000 people, and tho bidding was very keen and spirited throughout. Amongst the main items may bo noted the following:—Nearly new Bellsize motorcar, £355; bedroom suite. £77; piano, by Rud. Ibach Sohn, £57 10s; oak suite, £44 10s; telescope, £21; organ, £28: cabinet, £20, etc., etc. A very successful innovation, and one which was highly appreciated, was the selling from the catalogue in the open air, tho inconvenience and discomfort of crowded rooms were thus avoided. The total realisation amounted to about £1500. Mr C. E. Jones, our assistant auctioneer, conducted tho sale throughout in a manner entirely satisfactory to all concerned. Amongst a considerable volume of business last week may be specially noted the sale of Mr C. J. Newell's beautiful residential property, situate MacMillan avenue, Cashmere Hills, to Mrs Townend. 1
The fifth annual meeting of Wright. Stephenson and Co., Ltd., was held at Dunedin last week. Tho balance-sheet submitted showed the net profit for the year ended 31st March last to bo £25,437 ls 4d, which, added to tho amount brought forward from tho previous year, gave a total of £34,604 16s 3d to*he disposed of. It was decided to pay. the usual dividends of 6 per cent, "per annum upon the ordinary and o_ per cent, on the preference shares, put £5000 to reserve, which will then stand at £20.000, and carry forward £11,051 5s 3d to the succeeding year.
