The Rev. Mr Colville, who has boon conducting missions in connection with tho Church of England, is to marry Miss O. M. Peat, of the literary staff of tiie Feilding Star" in July, and then goes Home, returning to tako up his residence in Auckland in February Mr W. F. Massey, M.P.. will bo in next week, and visits Akaroa on Friday. Arrangements are being made for him to deliver a public nddress in the city, probably on Monday, Juno 6th. A definite announcement will be mado in the course of a day or two.

Mr J. Lawson Balfour recently received news from England that one of his works, an Eastern subject, the outstanding feature of which ii a classical figure, has been exhibited at tho Royal Academy. <

The Hon. T. Fergus, Captain J. B. Rain,ey (marine superintendent in New Zealand for the Tyser Line), and Mr H. J. Wynne, arrived from Wellington by the Maori on Saturday. We understand that two miniatures sent in by Miss Aileen G. Burton, whose work waa exhibited in tho Canterbury Art Society's exhibition this year, have been accepted by tho Royal Academy in London.

Sir Robert Stout, Chancellor of tho New Zealand University, has appointed Mr Vernon Redwood, formerly Mayor of Toowcomba, to represent tho university at the inauguration of tho Queensland University on Jnno Ist. MiRedwood is a nephew of Archbishop Redwood, of Wellington. Recent arrivals in town include:—Mr P. W. Woodhill (Sydney), Mr D. D. Macfarlane (Lyndon), Mr R. Boyd (Wellington), Mr H. ' Wappermann (Wellington), Mr T. Brown, Mr W. H. M-Cullough (Sydney), Mr and Mrs H. A. Russell (Sydney), and Mr C. H. Clark (Chicago).

A pleasant function took place at Messrs Ballantyne and Co.'s on Saturday afternoon last, when Miss W. Tayler, who is leaving tho firm, was the recipient of several pieces of handsome silverware. Major-General Godley (Commandant) will leave Wellington on Tuesday for Hawke's Bay and Auckland, returning to Wellington about Juno 14th. The Hon. H. F. R. McLaren, R. Hay, J. C. Hay, J. G. Lawrence, and J. A. Redpath arrived from Wellington by the Mararoa yesterday. Mr Isaac Gibbs. general manager of tho New Zealand Shipping Company, who has been on a visit io Auckland,. Tokomaru Bay, and Napier, in tho R.M.S. Rotorua, from Wellington by the Mararoa yesterday, accompanied by Captain J. Bone, marine superintendent of the' company. Mr Justice Sim left for Wellington by tho Maori on Saturday night. *Dr. Kennedy, Messrs T. Buxton. M.P., W Buckley, Hugo Gorlitz, and W. G. Tonks wero passengers by the Maori for Wellington on Saturday night. .__....
