SPREYDON BOROUGH COUNCIL.
* The Sproydon Borough Council met last night. Present —Tho Mayor (Mr J. Down), and Crs. Gab.ig.in, Nairn, Byrne, Whiting, Clark, Thornton, and Atkinson. Mr C. H. Ingle, on behalf of ratepayers in l>unn street, wrote asking that the remainder of the street between Baretta and Selwyn streets bo metalled. Referred to Works Committee, with power to act. A ratepayer wrote complaining that horses and cattle wero driven on tho fooi> paths. Cr. Nairn said that the police could not tako any action till the Council's by-laws were in force. It was decided to write to ah alleged offender, drawing hi.s attention to-the matter. The Mayor was elected chairman ot tuG Work s Committee; Cr. Whiting, of tho Finance Committee; and C' T . Clark of the By-laws Committee. Ci Clark reported that the employees of the old Spreydon Road Board had been re-en-gaged on Monday. The committee had arranged for some of the streets to b« rolled at a cost of 4s Cd per hour. Tho committee asked for, and was given power to obtain, as required, 100Q yards of metal, to put on the roads. Tho Lighting Committee recommended that lamps should be placed as follows - : — East Ward: Redruth avenue, corner Selwyn and Rosbory streets. Cheviot street, corner Rosbory and Simeon streets, corner of Milton and Simeon streets, and Somerset street, opposite! school. West Ward: Taramoa nnd Jerrold streets, corner Barringtnn nnrt H.ivard streets, corner Simeon and Havard streets, corner Neville and Barrington streets, and junction of Plunkec and Neville streets. The report was adopted. Replying to Cr. Wbitintr. Cr Clark said that an attempt would bq made to have the re-gradod footnaths asphalted before the winter: if not asohnltcd, a strip of shingle would bo put down.
