TIMARU.
Thc mayoral and Council elections caused record excitement, and the results wero not known till midnight. Mr James Craigie, M.P., was reelected Mayor for tho tenth time, beating his opponent, Mr A. Beck, by Most interest centred in the Council •■lections, there being 25 candidates for twelve seats. The Labour party woro in the fight for tho first time. The successful candidates were:—Messrs W. 0. Raymond, H. F. Morton, T. Hawkey, It. Shilitto, M. Higgins, G. J. Sealer, H. Green, W. Angland. W. A. Pearson. W. Satterthwaite, H. Goodwin and J. Reader. The last-named is the leader of the Labour Party. Messrs Gilchrist, Harney and Beck (old councillors), were among those defeated. The retiring members of the Harbour Board and High School Board were reelected by substantial majorities.
