RULES AND PROVISIONS

The following are tho regulations and provisions under ''The Animals Protection Act." for the season. 1011. as announced at the annual meeting of the Acclimatisation Society on Wednesday evening. Native game.—The season will open on Monday. May Ist. at six a.m. The following birds only may he killed: Pukeko. grey duck, spoonbill-duck, black swan. The use of cylinders for the purpose of taking or killing ducks or other native game in any lake or river is prohibited, nor may any gun but a shoulder-gun- be used; no gun used may exceed size No. 10 at muzzle, or be fitted with barrels exceeding 3G inches in length. No gun exceeding 101b. in weight may he used. No devices other than huts made of scrub, mndholes. or minis may be used for taking native game on or near Lake Ellesmere. Nor shall any such device or structure be used in any part of tho lake where the depth of water is more than 24 inches. Boats concealed in the vegetation along the margin of the lake may be used, provided that such boats are not dressed or hidden. Boats not .dressed or hidden may be used to recover native game previously shot. No live birds shall be used as decoys about Lake Ellesmere. The number of decoys placed within a hundred square yards on the Lake shall «ot exceed a hundred. No persons shall take or kill more than 150 head of native game in any one season within the Canterbury Acclimatisation District. Imported game.—-The season for imported game opens on Monday, May Ist,at six a.m. The only imported game allowed to be. killed is California quail; and these only by persons who have taken out a £1 license. Areas within which imported and native game may not bo killed.—All that area in the County of Akaron, situated in tho Aharoa and Ellesmere Survey District. Canterbury Land District, 'containing 1540 acres, being the lake known as Lake Forsyth: including all roads fronting on the shores of the suid Lake; all those reserves in the said county and survey districts numbered 31SG, 3157. 3185. 2903, 250, 810. 800 and 157; all that area situated at Woodend, in tho Mandevillc and Rangiora Road District, and defined m notification published in ''Gazette" No. 93 of Bth November. 1900; all that area known a,s Yarr's Lagoon, near Greenpark. and defined in ''Gazette No. 52 of 23rd June, 1904; all that area within one mile on each side of the. West Coast (Christehurch-Hokitika) road from Springfield to Dillmanstown tho Ahuriri Lagoon ; Horseshoe Lake; Glcnmark Lagoon; Cheviot Lagoon; all that part of the river Avon and its tributaries from Dallingien bridge to ■where such river and its tributaries are respectively crossed by the main trunk railway line to the north; the lagoons at Amberley—namely, all that area, containing 74 acres, more or less, being Section 5664, Block XII, Grey Survey District, the said section being the property of Alfred Edward Tutton, of Amberley; and all that area containing 162. acres, more or less, being Section 7109. Block XII, Grey Survey District the said section being the property of Frederick Bnsch. of >.ewlands, Amberley ; all lands notified or set apart as sanctuaries or reserves for tho preservation of imported or native game. Sale of game.—Native and imported game cannot bo sold or purchased within tho Canterbury Acclimatisation Society's District.
