PROTEST AGAINST STATE AID
(press association telegram.) WELLINGTON, March 24
Early this month. Mr T. E. Sedgwick, who was instrumental in bringing a number of youths to the Dominion to take up positions on farms, addressed a meeting at Dannevirke, at which ho is reported to have said that ho had interviewed the Minister of Labour, asking that a Government grant of £8 per head lor passage money should be made on a firther batch of young immigrants from the Old Country. Ir Sedgwick stated there were £00 farmers here waiting for these boys. The request for a grant was refused by the Hon. J. A. Millar until the first contingent of lads had spent twelve months in tho Dominion. The Wellington Trades and Labour Council has decided that a deputation shnll wait on Mr Miliar, protesting against any further boys being brought out. The Council objects to State Aid for these boys or any other indentured labour.
