WELLINGTON NOTES.
{iTTCIkI, TO "THB PRESS.") WELLINGTON, March" 24
The exodus from Wellington continues. Tho Corinthic, yesterday afternoon, took a large number of passengers, and no fewer than 592 persons paid threepence to get inside tho barriers in order to see their friends off. By the Moeraki, which left for Sydney to-day, there was particularly heavy booking. The demand for berths exceeded the supply as early as three days ago, so that additional accommodation had to be improvised. A permit was obtained by the Union Company to erect eighty-four berths between decks, and even then the vessel was a full ship. There was a great crowd to see tho steamer off, and hundreds again paid the threepenny tee to get inside the barriers. Among the passengers was Mr Arthur E. G. Rhodes, of Christchurch.
Tho Sydney steamers have recently been taking away from our shores a large number of working men. This is no doubt owing largely to the bad times in Wellington and the great prosperity in Sydney. Tho "Post" states that a private in one of the suburban Territorial companies is to be court-martialled in Wellington next Tnesday evening, on a charge of insubordination. The private, it is alleged, refused to carry out certain instructions given by a superior officer.
Mr fll&rtin Kennedy has received the following cable message from Mr John Redmond, Leader of the Irish Nationalists Party:—"lrish Party delegates arriving Wellington by Rotorua; kindly arrange reception and twelve meetings in JNfew Zealand. John Redmond." The Ratorua is due ,at Wellington on May Ist. When the last Nationalist delegation—Messrs Devlin and Donovan —was in New Zeathirty meetings were held, and nearly £5000 was collected. The Jist of subscriptions was headed by Auckland with £566. The other large subscriptions were : —Wellington £040, Timai-u £336, Dunedin £314, Napier £257, Ashburton £245, Hawera £225. and Christchtirch £200.
