Rumours are increasing that a compromise on the Veto question is ma-
terialising.
"Tlie Times" says that some of the moderate Liberals are putting out feelers as to whether a compromise will bo acceptable; also that the Nationalists and Labourites aro being sounded as to whether they favour the proposal of a Joint Committee to settle deadlocks, provided that the representatives of both Houses are such as to secure the Government of the day a majority. The Labourites are said to wrathfullv onnose the idea.
The "Daily Chronicle" remarks that these silent negotiations have not been encouraged by the support as yet accorded to them.
The "Daily News" hopes the Government appreciates the gravity of allowing breathing spaco for intrigue.
