N.Z. POLO ASSOCIATION.
(press association telegram.) GISBORNE, March 7. The annual tourney of the New Zealand Polo Association commenced here to-day on the new ground at Buahmere. The weather was beautifully fine, and there was a. fairly large crowd of spectators. The Saville Cup competition was commenced, three games being played. The following* were the results: —Mangahira A 6 goals beat Man gat v A 3 goals, Poverty Bay 9 goals beat Mangahere B 2 goals, Hawke's Bay 15 goals beat Poverty Bay nil. Tho tourney will bo continued tomorrow. Tho finals will be played on Thursday. The annual meeting of the New Zealand Polo Association was held to-night, Mr 11. A. Russell (Hawke's Bay) presiding. The following office bearers for tho ensuing year were elected:—President, his Excellency the Governor; vice-president. Sir William Russell; committee, Messrs H. A. Russell, J. R. Mlirphy, J. D. Hall, R. Levcn, J. Strang; secretary aid treasurer. Mr D. G. A. Cooper; hon. auditor, Mr E. Bucholz. The meeting decided to hold the next tourney at Hastings, also to ask a committee to consider the advisability of introducing a "no offside" rule at tourneys.
