THE MEAT TRUST.
THE POSITION IN AUSTRALIA
REASSURING STATEMENTS,
United Frees Association—By Electrio Telegraph— Copyright. SYDNEY, March 7.
Mr Treflc, an honorary Minister, does net believe that th© Meat Trust will be able to obtain the same footing in Australia as in America, because th© Governments are hostile, aud the Trust will never be able to obtain preferential treatment in the carriage of goods on the railways aa against isolated settlers. Even if the Trust became established, it would b© a simple matter for the Government to stop in and handle th© produce from co-operative works, the Trust would have a hopeless struggle against tho combined power of th© people and the Government. Ho did not think that with a Federal Labour Government in power, and the Stato Parliaments rapidly getting into the hands of tho Labour Party, Australia would b© regarded as a suitable place for th© Trust's operations. Nevertheless, it behoved everybody to back up tho Government's efforts to prevent the Trust playing ducks and drakes with tho producer's interests.
