NEW BRIGHTON.

Tho New Brighton Borough Council met on Monday night. Mayor (Mr W. H. Bellamy), and Crs. G. W. Sellars, C. Withell, L, Hopkins, 8. Bruce, J. B. Scoblo, 11, E. Hargreaves, G, E. Goodwin, and J. Buxton. Th© Health Department wrote that th© North Canterbury Hospital Board Was arranging to tftk© over tho duties With regard to the prevention of infectious diseases under tho Act pateed last year, and "that tho Board was prepared to carry out the sanitary inspection in the borough for an additional sum of £10 per annum. LYTTELTON. ~ The Lyttelton Borough Council met on Monday night. Pi-e«ent--The Mayor (Mr M. J. Miller), Cm F. J. Pago, C. Cook, W. T. Foster, J. R. Webb, F. W. Anderson. J. H. Collins, 8. R. Webb, N. C. Schumacher. The Water "Supply Committee in its ropOrt, covered the report of Mr Home, weUn-inker, who stiited that he had cleaned the old cylinder well at th© Heathcote Valley pumping station. Thero waa a supply of at least 5000 Gallons per liouir from this well, and ho recommended that the well should be coupled up with » small pump to lift the extra supply. The Committee's recommendation in that direction was adontod. Tho report of the Finance Committee showed that tbe District Fund Account showed a debit of £2444 lis 6d, and this, added to £3003 14s. duo to Temporary Loans Account, mado a total deficiency of £5448 5s od. Tho Drainage Loah Account showed a credit of £123 16s Sd. I

Cr. Page drew attention to the dilapidated- state of a building in Norwich quay, which was being occupied as offices. It was decided that the inspector be asked to make a report on the building. Cr. Pag© also mentioned that an old building in Canterbury street, which had been gutted by fire about four years ago, was still standing. The question of having the half-burned building removed was referred to the By-law and Legal Committee to report.
