WAIPARA
At a meeting held on Saturday there were present Messrs A. Todd, S. B. Gib, G. Rutherford, and J. Jones. Mr Todd was voted to the chair. The Valuer-General wrote, stating that a voucher had been sent on to tho Treasury for the payment of £_I'JO 12s 6'l, tlio same being advance on account cf subsidy due to the Council for the yenr 1910-1911. Mr W. Buss wrote, applying for some repairs to be done to road lending to tbe Government (sections, on the back part of his Scargill property. It was decided to reply that it was the custom of the Council in s;ich caees that half tho eo?t should be defrayed by the owner of the property. If he was prepared to accept these terms an estimate of tbe cost of the work would ";<* .made. Messrs Harper and Son, the Council's solicitor} - , wrote, stating that the Council ■iciiu now be quite safe in dealing with its property in the township of Hiftvarden. 1. was decided to advertise the proptrty for sale by public auction, in lour i-acre lo'is at the next Hawarden sale. Mr .7. Dampier-Ciosiley wrote, complaining ol tiie reckless pace at which motorists were permitted to travel on the Weka Pass road, often at night time, and .. ithout usinp* either lights or horn. It was decided to reply that the Council were quite in sympathy with the f-pn-tiinents expressed iii h« letter, mil were taking st"ps to move in the matter. It iv;ks decided to widen the cuttings on each side of the bridge just north of what in known as the Washhouse Hill, or the Weka Pass road. The tender of W. Harrington for quarrying and breaking 500 yards of stone at Waikari at 3s Od per "yard was accepted. Accounts for £.'306 2s 9d were passed for payment, and the Council adjourned.
