SHIPPING NOTES.

The Union Company's steamer Aorangi j wn3 expected, to reach Wellington last night on ber first return from San Francisco,' via Papeete and ltarotonga. An effort was made to get into communication with the Aorangi yesterday by the warships at Lyttelton by wireless telegraphy, but without Buccees. Tho Aorangi was to have had a wireless apparatus installed at Son Francisco. The vessel is bringing about 100 passengers,, 1030 tous of cargo, and over 100p bags of mail matter. An effort is to be made to get the Aorangi awr.y from Wellington to-night for Lyttelton, whero she is to be decked tomorrow for cleaning and re-painting. The vessel has very little time to ppara, as she is booked to leave Wellington next Wednes-. day on her return to San Francisco. Th* Defender is loading timber at Karamea for Lyttelton, ar.d will afterwards go on the slip here for survey. Sho is expected to arrive here next Monday. The Strathclyde is to be floated out of dock ivt six o'clock thi3 morning, and will be berthed at No. 4 East. The Hawke's Bay, which is dus this morning, will berth on the other side of No. 4 wharf. The Arapawa, due to-morrow morning, is to load for Wellington, Wanganui and Patea, and "-rill sail in tho evening. The Wcstport Coal Company's collier Cnnopus is due here about ten o'clock this uorniug with a full cargo of coal from Westport. The local agents of the Maoriland Steamshin Company have received advice tljat the Ennerdale left Port Huon, Tasmania, at 3 a.m. on Saturday last, with a cargo of timber for Dunedin, Lyttelton and Napier. Captain C % Watchlin, who joined the schooner Clyde as mate, was compelled to sisjn ofl at Wellington on Monday, owing to ill-health. He recently sold his* interest in , tho scow Nguru to the Maoriland Company. Mr Sutherland, late of the Arahura, has > joined the Mokoia oa second officer, in place i of Mr R. J. Reeves. ,
