A serious explosion occurred at the Killingworth Colliery, West Wallsend, caused by an accumulation of gas in tho mine, which was not being worked. It is not thought that loss of life has occurred, although tho poppct-hoad and surface gear were shattered. Steps aro being taken to seal, down tho mine, as it is burning. The damage is roughly estimated at £20,000.
