IMPELLENTS AT THE SHOW.

The general committee of the A. and P. Association had before them yesterday a very satisfactory document, in the shape of tho balance-sheet in connection with the recent show. With a

credit balance of £811, the committee will no doubt feel encouraged to go on with some of tho extensions and

improvements in various features oi the show, which experience has shown to be desirable, and in some cases ncctrssary. The absence ot many of tho usual lino exhibit* of implements and machinery had evidently no bad effect on the attendance of farmers, but it might depreciate the value of the f-ho'.v in

their eyct> if the manufacturers and agents continued to hold aloof It is gratilying. there-fore, to loam, from wha: the President said yesterday, that there is a probability of

them exhibiting next year as tiu-y have done in the past. In connection with this matter and another, the President remarked that tho Committee welcomed fair criticism, but when

criticism was not fair it was time for them to criticise the Press. It is not quite clear why he should have thought fit to- comment on tho newspapers' business arrangements in connection with one department of the Show, because we ventured to suggestthat tho management of another feature might be improved. Our comments were justified by the fact that the parade is a matter of pitblio interest; it was no reply to them to criticise, as tho President did, purely privato business affairs with which no one but the parties directly interested
