CHRISTCHURCH TRAMWAY BOARD.

FORTNIGHTLY MEETING.

The fortnightly meeting of the Christchurch Tramway Board, held yesterday, was attended by Messrs 11. Pearce (chairman), G. T. Booth, \V. Recce, J. A. Fletcher, D. Sykes, S A. staples, W. Hill, and iv. W. Beaven. Tho Works and Traffic Committee reported that the short piece of single crack at the intersection of Moorhous<» Avenue and Colombo street was responsible for considerable delay to trallic, which was practically doubled sinco the present lay-out was installed. Thc Committee recommended that the double track in Colombo street be continued to iloorhouse Avenue, thence easterly towards the Railway Station, and westerly towards Lincoln road a short distance. "Special work-' crossings would have to be imported, and it would probably be six months before tho installation could bo completed. The estimated cost was £1-108. Tho alterations would nrove a great convenience to the Railway, Opawa, Cashmere Hills, addington, Windmill road and special Show Grounds and Trotting Grounds services. The Committee also recommended that tho double track at Dalgety's corner be extended to connect with the existing loop in Worcester street, with a track from the Cathedral Square shed, connecting with the track past Warner's. This ehed connection would much facilitate the handling of extra cars from this car shed, and the extension of the double track would be a great advantage to the New Brighton, Burwood. and Linwood services. The estimated cost was £883. By installing a single track curve round the north end of the shelter, it would be possible for Sumner cars to come in past the front of the shelter and pass round tho Godley Statue to their present departure point at fhe Post Office. This would save the present delay and risk involved in shunting every trip. The estimated cost was £207. The estimated cost of continuing the double track across the railway on tne Lincoln road line was estimated to cost £1001. As it would not be urgently required until next Show, the Committee recommended that the matter be postponed for a tirep. Tlie renort was adopted. Mr J. H. Howell requested that when passengers travelling from New Brighton gave due notice conductors should be instructed to give them supplementary tickets, which would enable them to change at ATdwin's road intoWorcester etreet cars. It was stated that the transfer could be arranged for when the Brighton car was met by a Linwood car.

Accounts amounting to £5048 5s lid were passed for payment.
