There was a very large gathering at tlie Town Hall last evening to do honour to Mother Mary Joseph Aubert, the occasion being a public recognition of the fact that Mother Aubert has just concluded fifty years' work amongst the sick and suffering of New Zealand. His Excellency the Governor handed Mother Aubert a cheqtie for over £'2000, which had been subscribed by sympathisers all over the Dominion. Lord Islington paid a high tribute to the splendid services Mother Aubert had rendered to her fellow-creatures. It required no panegyrics from him, Jbe said, to elaborate that work, for it stood out by itself ns a monument of sustained energy in the cause of human solicitude. . ■Mother Aubert , . who personally received the gift, met with an extraordinarily enthusiastic reception.
