OPENING OF THE CHRTSTCHURCH CLUB'S SEASON. The Christen urch Polo Club opened their season on South Hagley Pnrk on Saturday afternoon in splendid weather. The ground, after the long, dry spell, was hard, and this, added to the too good condition of the ponies, somewhat militated against much excellent work being clone. During the afternoon, scratch matches betweeu players from North Canterbury and Chrietchurch players wero engaged in, those taking part being Messrs Tahu Rhodes, J. D. Hall, T. L. Cowlishaw, G. L. Stead, H. Anton Adams, G. L. Rutherford, C. Rutherford, and Dr. Maitland. A largo crowd of interested spectators witnessed the play. During the afternoon, Mrs Arthur E. G. Rhodes, wife of the president of the club, entertained tlio players and visitors at afternoon tea.
