BISHOP AVERILL.

FORTHCOMING VISIT TO CHBISTCHURCH. The approaching visit of his Lordship the Bishop of Waiapu, formerly Vicar of St. Michael's, to Christchurch, is being looked forward to with great interest by not only his old parishioners but also by a very large number of Christchurch residents who hold him in affectionate regard. It was, therefore, only to be expected that steps should be taken to trive him a warm welcome on this his first visit to this city since his elev-fttion to the episcopate. This will take the form of an informal social gathering, at which all his old friends — parishioners and others —are invited to' be present. It will be held in, Miss Cox's hall, Hereford street west. There will be no charge for admission, and it it requested that no children be taken. Bishop Averill is expected to arrive in Christchurch on the 9th inst., and the social will be held on Saturday, the 10th, at eight o'clock. The committee who have taken the matter in hand desire everything to be as informal as possible. A little cood music, vocal and instrumental, will be kindly given by some well-known Christehtirch residents, and altogether it is hoped that a pleasant evening will be snent by both his Lordship and his friends. One of the reasons for Bishop Averill's visit to Christchurch iust now is that be may accede to tbe request of seathoklers of St. Michael's, and perform the ceremony of unveiling the new east window of St. Michael's. It is well known that it is due to his energy and work that this very handsome improvement to the old church, which all hold in affection, has been obtained. The unveiling will take place on the 18th instant. The window, which is a beautiful specimen of Messrs Curtis and Co.'s artistic work, is a three-light one, the principal part of the upper portion being a figure of Christ, with be.'ow it a representntion of" the Lord's Supper. It cost about £300.
