OLD COLONISTS' SECTION

« MEETING OF THE COMMITTEE. The monthly meeting of tho Old Colonists' section of the Museum was held yesterday, when Mr W. G. Brittan presided. Correspondence was read from tho 1 .emier and members of Parliament re the proposed removal of any part of, the old Provincial Council buildings, all being in favour of the resolution passed by the committee in opposition thereto. The report of the sub-committee airpointed to deal with the correspondence of Sir W. Hall-Jones with the representatives of original members of the Canterbury Association was brought up and agreed to. The following motion, proposed by Mr G. 11. Hart for Mr K. C. Bishop, and seconded by Mr Mosley, was adopted:—"That with a view of expediting the work of the committee, and .saving the time of many of the fortyeight members of the present committee, an executive of ten members, in addition to the chairman, be set up to conduct the business of the section, and report the results to the General Committee, lhe General Committee to meet at least four times a year; the executive to be elected annually.". It was decided that the following gentlemen be elected as the executive: --Messrs J. C. Adams, It. C. Bi.hop, \V. G. Brittan, J. E. March, G. ii. Hart, J. C. Andersen, M. Mosley. F. C. B. Bishop. Jas. Hay, E. It. Waitc, R. Speight, and Dr. Hight. The following donations were received and votes of thanks ncrorded to the donors: —Letters from Lord Lyttelton, Messrs E. G. V. aketiold, and J. It. Godley; a lithograph of tbe reception at Lyttelton of Sir George Grey when Governor of New Zealand. These we.v donated by Mrs T. Kent, the widow <,f the lato Mr Thos. Kent. Mr J. D. Enys sent his photograph, Other gifts were the seal of tlie Board of Education before the Board was divided, and also the minute Ixiok of the Education Commission (13(. . , presented by the Board of Education; evidence taken by the Commission w 18*50 re the Lyttelton and Christchurch railway, presented by Mr G.
