Thttbsiiay, December 1. AFTERNOON SITTING. The House met at 2.30 p.m. LAND SETTLEMENT FINANCE BILL. The report of tho managers appointed to confer with managers of the Council in regard to tho amendments made by the latter in the Land Settlement Finance Bill was received. Sir JOSEPH WARD explained that under tho new clauses agreed to by : the Conference, no person holding land of the value of over £2500 could take up land under tho Bill. Tho report was adopted. PUBLIC WORKS STATEMENT. Replying to Mr Masscy, The Hon. R. McKENZIE said the debate on the Public Worlts Statement would be taken on Friday afternoon or evening. RAILWAYS BILL. The Houso went into Committee' on the Government Railvfay Act Amend- ' ment Bill. Clause 7. giving the Minister power to grant leave or absence to member* of the railway service, and clause 10, providinsr that tho Council may fix tha salaries of officers within limits, were struck out on the voices. Tho Bill was reported with amendments, and was later on put through its final stages. MINING BILL. The Mining Act Amendment Bill was committed. Clause 18 (referring to gold stealing) was struck out on the voices. Considerable discussion ranged around tho clause providing that gold exported shall pay a duty of threepence per ounce troy, to bo paid in to tho Public Trustee's account and placed to the credit of the Goldminers* Relief Fund. After considerable discussion, tho clause was postponed. The House rose at 5.30 p.m.
