QUEEN ALEXANDRA'S BIRTHDAY.

♦- BRITISH NAVY'S SALUTE. In honour of tho birthday of Queen Alexandra, a Royal salute of twentyone guns was fired by the Squadron at Lyttelton yesterday. The squadron in port at Lyttelton, comprising tlio flagship of his Excellency Vice-Admiral _ir Richard Poore, H.M.S. Powerful, and the second-class cruisers Encounter and Cambrian, dressed ship and were rainbowed with flags, the white ensign being hoisted at each masthead. Tho Encounter was lying at the wharf, but the other vessels were anchored about three miles down the harbour. Punctually at noon the warships fired their salute of twenty-one guns. It was an impressive scene. The ships used their small guns, but the roar of those on the Encounter echoed among the hills. Tho Powerful and Cambrian, down tlie harbour, were enveloped in white smoke. On each ship a squad of the R.M.L.I, paraded, and stood at the salute while the bugles rang out the Royal salute, after firing had ceased.
