FUNERAL OF THE LATE J.W. MASON.

The funeral of the late Mr J. W. Mascn, who was accidentally drowned at Westport took place on Tuesday afternoon at Amberley. The deceased was a very popular young man, both in sporting and business circles, and in respect to his memory business in Amberley was suspended during the progress of the cortege to the cemetery, flags being flown halfmast at the local school and business houses. At the hour fixed for the cortege to leave the residence of Mr O. B. Mason, father of deceased, the members of the local cricket and football clubs lined the route from the gateway to tho hearse. The pall-bearers were Messrs Patterson (2), Alley. Dougall. Campbell, and McFarlane,* present and past members of tho Boys' High School. Christchurch, of which deceased was a popular student. The wreaths, of which there were over eighty, were from Tho Legal Profession (West-port), The Club (We~tport), Boys' High School, B.H.S.
