Bates's weather summary md forecast, issued at Wellington at 5 p.m. yesterday, were as follow:—Heavy rain fell in many parts of the North Island on Thursday night, and tie weather has been squally and showery in Foveaux Strait and on tho West Coast of the South Island to day, but elsewhere the weather has improved. Strong westerly winds have prevailed. Present indications aro for ■% elowly rising barometer everywhere. South-westerly winds, strong, generally moderate to squally in the South, will probably prevail. Fair weather ia probable northward of New Plymouth and Napier, and changeable weather elsewhere; showery in many parts of the South Island.
