THE PHYSICIST.
The physicist of tho expedition is Dr. G. Simpson, avlio has had considerable experience of meteorological and magnetic Avork. "We are to endeavour to complete the work done by the Discovery, by taking constant* records of the magnetic elements ivith self-record-ing instruments. Then Aye are going to investigate the upper atmospheres by means of small balloons—weather permitting. We are also going to study the crystalline structure of the ice, measure the amount of ozone in the atmosphere, and also obseri-e atmospherical electricity. W T e are not going t7> do any Pole searching, but stop at the base at McMurdo Sound. Meteorological observations will also be taken at King Edward Sound. Mr Wright is going to make chemical investigations of the sea-water and ice."
Dr. Simpson did not come to New Zealand in tho Terra Nova, but arrived yesterday morning by the Mokoia from Wellington.
