Tho drought lias been severely felt in the Ptirakanui district of Ota go, where wo 11 over 100 head of stock have died for want of feed and water. The dairy industry has ai»o been severely affected. A telegram from our Dunedin correspondent states that the the Otago Central orchards have not .suffered to anything like the (.stent of those in Ashbttrton and Hawke's Bay. There will be a good crop ot stone fruit, and the early varieties will be ready for the market in three weeks' time.
The Wanganui Agricultural and Pastoral Association will hold their annual Show en November 10th and 17th. and the entries close on November 2nd. In addition to the ordinary classes, provision i:. made for every .section of the work done at technical schools, whether it lie freehand, model, mechanical, or architectural drawing, modelling, embossing, metal work, wood work, w-cod carving, or the best collection of engineer.-' tools. For this latter class, Mr James Thain has given a gold modal to the winner, while for the best design of a medal for the Agricultural Association, Mr J. IT. Burnett has given a special prize of £2 2s. Mr Gregor McGregor has also given 30s as special prizes for an essay on "Our Native Flora," giving the botanical and native or common names of tlie different forest trees, bhrubs, etc.
