BOWLING.
EDGBWARE CLUB. The Edgewar© Bowlinjj Club, whose green is situated in a cosy corner of fet. Albanß Park, opened the season on. Saturday afternoon, under the happießfc of auspices. The green looked in splendid order, with a fine coating of grass, and there can be no doubt that after some playing on it will have a capital surface. The members of the Green Committee were deservedly complimented on the success which bad attended their responsible work. The opening ceremony was attended by a large number of bowlers from the various town and country clubs, and all the rinks wero nicely filled. The occasion was graced by tho presence of a large number of ladies, indicating that the fair sex is beginning to take an interest in the game which exercises such a fascination for the sterner sex. Tno fresident of the Club (Mr Dent) performed the pleasing ceremony at declaring the green open for play, and he incidentally thanked the green committee and the secretary (Mr Brass) for the energy they had shown in making euch complete and pleasant arrangements. Ho also mentioned that the club had received from Mr J. McCaig, of ricotland, four pairs of bowls for competition. Mr ilcCaig, who was a keen lx>w]er and sportsman, had on a visit to Christchurch inspected several of tho greens, and this presentation was hia generous return for tho courtesy shown him. The kitty was rolled up by Mrs C. Allard, who followed it up with tho first bowl, almost scoring a "toucher." Tho rinks then, took possession, and a very pleasant ganio was played during the remaining hours of tho afternoon.
On the ivaiapoi Club's green on Friday evening the holders of the MaoKay badges were challenged, aii* .saved defeat by 11 points. The winning team was: —Arlow, Loithhead, Wells, and Pcarco (21). The former holders wrro: —Mralings, Wright, MacKay, and Aslton (10).
