SHIPPING NOTES.

A close holiday will be kept on tho wharves to-day as far as cargo working is concerned. Eight vessels aro due to-day, and several mora win arrive to-morrow, when thero will be a busy time for the waterside workers. The steamers in port to-morrow will be <'<.rinthic, Wakanui, Star of Australia, Cornwall, Kent, Kaiapoi. Arapawa, Ngatoro, Mararoa, Victoria, Warrimoo, and WootUn.

Three oversea steamers left Wellington within an hoir of <mc another yestorday afternoon for Lyttelton, and are due here this morning. The vessels aro the Federal-Houlder-Shire Line steamer Cornwall, from West of England forte; the Tyaer Line steamer Star of Australia, Irom New "icrk, and the Ne v Zealand Shipping Company's steamer Wakatmi, trom Montreal.

The F.H.S. Line .steamer Kent will leavo Port ChaJmers this morning for Lyttelton, and will arrive hens to-morrow morni.itf. She is to load a large quantity of grain and general cargo her. for West of England ports, and will go on fo Wellington, whence she sails finally for Avonmouth on the 22nd inst.

The New Zealand Shipping Company's steamer Otaki, from London, via Dunediu, will not arrive here until Friday morning. After landing 900 to_._ of cargo, site will sail for Bluff to complete discharging. Sho will bo laid up for tome time, and will probably dock nt Port Chairaers for cleaning and painting before loading for London. The Shaw, Savill and Albion steamer Arawa, bound from Lordon -via Plymouth to Wellington and Lyttelton, left Capetown last Saturday evening for Hobart.
